This is because the name Portofino does not refer only to the splendid Borgo, but to an <strong>entire promontory and also a national park<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">So, let&#8217;s discover this wonderful area!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\">5 PLACES TO VISIT IN PORTOFINO<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Portofino Walking Tour 2020 4K\" width=\"1220\" height=\"686\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AhYBDeW9CKE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">The Borgo of Portofino<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">The <strong>tall colorful buildings<\/strong> of the Borgo of Portofino surround the <strong>Piazzetta<\/strong>, a small square overlooking the sea where the fishing boats languidly swing on the calm water.<br \/>\nBehind the buildings are the <strong>hills covered of olive trees<\/strong>.<br \/>\nYou should definitely sit on a caf\u00e9, sip some wine and enjoy the picturesque view.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">The Portofino Lighthouse<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Not far from the Borgo, right <strong>on the extreme tip of the promontory<\/strong>, is the Portofino lighthouse. Built in 1910 and still functioning today, the lighthouse is positioned<strong> on a cliff 40 meters above the sea<\/strong>, surrounded by woods. It is a solitary but spectacular place, perfect especially for those who love the sea &#8211; <strong>from here it is possible to spot dolphins and sometimes even whales<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">The Church of St George and Castello Brown<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Also the <strong>Church of St. George<\/strong> is located in a splendid position <strong>overlooking the Borgo of Portofino and the sea<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe Church has an unusual <strong>oval shape<\/strong> and dates back to 1154. However, excavations have brought to light an even more ancient square chapel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">During the Second World War, the Church was completely destroyed by a British bomb and then rebuilt exactly as it was before. Inside are some <strong>relics of St. George<\/strong>, patron saint of Portofino, <strong>brought by local sailors returning from the Crusades<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Close to the Church of St. George is <strong>Castello Brown<\/strong>, also known as the Castle of St. George.<br \/>\nBuilt as a <strong>defensive building<\/strong>, it later became a <strong>noble residence<\/strong>.<br \/>\nImposing, with its interiors rich in history and an <strong>enchanting garden<\/strong>, the Castle is today a <strong>popular location for weddings and other events<\/strong>. And it is <strong>open to visitors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">The beaches of Portofino<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Liguria has 350 km of coastline<\/strong> and near Portofino is <strong>one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the region<\/strong>. It\u2019s the <strong>Bay of Paraggi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Bay of Paraggi has t<strong>wo different beaches<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; <strong>Paraggi<\/strong>, almost entirely occupied by <strong>beach clubs<\/strong>, therefore perfect for those looking for more comfort and style,<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8211; <strong>Niasca<\/strong>, a <strong>public pristine beach<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Both are small and protected beaches, with <strong>crystal clear water<\/strong> and green hills in the background.<br \/>\nOne good thing is that <strong>the whole bay is off-limits to navigation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Not far from the Bay of Paraggi<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>is another wonderful small free beach that is worth seeing.
