Its jagged coastline and territory hide plenty of lovely beaches and spot to discover.<\/p>\n<p>When thinking about a vacation on a Greek islands surely people immediately think of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.my-rental-homes.com\/blog\/which-one-is-the-most-secluded-beach-of-santorini\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Santorini<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.my-rental-homes.com\/blog\/the-best-beaches-of-mykonos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Mykonos<\/strong><\/a>, Crete or Rhodes. However, Zakynthos is becoming more and more a popular tourist destination. Maybe it\u2019s due to its international airport which facilitates the connections with other countries, or because of its stunning beaches.<\/p>\n<p>Do you want to know which are the best beaches in Zakynthos? Here are a few of them.<\/p>\n<h2>Best beaches in Zakynthos<\/h2>\n<h3>The\u00a0Shipwreck Beach (Navagio Beach)<\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0Shipwreck Beach, or <strong>Navagio Beach<\/strong>, is definitely <strong>the most popular and photographed spot in Zakynthos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This beach has clear light blue waters, white sand and 200 mt high white cliffs all around.<br \/>\nHowever, its main feature is <strong>the wreck of an old cargo boat<\/strong>, the MV Panagiotis. You may have heard that is that of a tobacco smuggler\u2019s ship that crashed during a storm, but it is just a boat that ran ashore in 1980.<br \/>\nDespite being <strong>accessible only by boat<\/strong>, the best way to enjoy the beauty of Navajo Beach is from <strong>the viewing platform at the top of the cliffs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Zakynthos  -Zante - Greece travel 4k (drone)\" width=\"1220\" height=\"686\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5ZxApiwDecQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Xigia Sulfur Beach<\/h3>\n<p>The wildest part of Zakynthos is the northern one, and this is where Xigia Beach is located.<br \/>\nActually, <strong>there are two Xigia Beaches<\/strong>, side-by-side.<\/p>\n<p>Easily accessible by car, the beach is surrounded by steep cliffs, the sand is made up of small white pebbles and the blue color of the sea is really peculiar. This is due to <strong>a high concentration of sulfur<\/strong> coming from a spring hidden in a nearby cave.<\/p>\n<p>The smell of sulfur could be somehow annoying but <strong>spending a few hours at Xigia Beach is a sort of free spa experience<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p>Besides this, the deep water and the rocky seabed make Xigia Beach one of the best beaches in Zakynthos for <strong>snorkeling<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Laganas<\/h3>\n<p>On the southern coast of the Island is the bay of Laganas, which probably forms\u00a0<strong>the largest beaches in Zakynthos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike Navagio Beach or Xigia Beach, Laganas can be pretty <strong>crowded<\/strong>. There are <strong>plenty of sunbeds, parking lots, and numerous restaurants and bars<\/strong> that are very lively at night.<\/p>\n<p>This is the perfect beach if you don&#8217;t mind to be around people or want to enjoy the <strong>nightlife<\/strong>. But it\u2019s good also if you have <strong>children<\/strong>, thanks to the shallow water and the many tourist facilities.<\/p>\n<h3>Marathonisi<\/h3>\n<p>The bay of Laganas is also home to a <strong>small island, Marathonisi,<\/strong> where you can find one of the most appreciated beaches in Zakynthos.<\/p>\n<p>There are actually <strong>two beaches<\/strong>, both equally stunning.<br \/>\nOne is perfect for <strong>snorkeling<\/strong> thanks to the nearby <strong>sea caves<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe other gently slopes towards the sea, which color is between green and blue and becomes darker offshore. It looks like a Caribbean beach!<\/p>\n<p>The island is part of a <strong>Marine Park<\/strong> and is a <strong>protected area<\/strong>, therefore the beach is accessible up to 3 meters from the shore, with a rope clearly delimiting the free area.<\/p>\n<p>Marathonisi is nicknamed <strong>Turtle Island&#8221;<\/strong> for two reasons.<br \/>\nFirst, it is where the<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Loggerhead_sea_turtle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong> Caretta Caretta turtles<\/strong><\/a>, a protected species, lay their eggs.<br \/>\nSecond, <strong>its profile recalls that of a sea turtle<\/strong>.
