Israel is a relatively small state<\/strong>, with an area of only 20,000 km\u00b2. Yet there are various Unesco sites<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In this blog post we\u2019re going to talk about those related to the urban environments<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The last recent Unesco site in Israel is the Old City of Jerusalem<\/strong>, world heritage site since 1981.<\/p>\n Jerusalem is considered the holy city for Judaism, Christianity and Islam<\/strong> and therefore has a great symbolic value.<\/p>\n The Old City is located within ancient walls<\/strong>, built for the last time in the 1530s under the rule of Suleiman the Magnificent. There are 4 districts<\/strong> separated by streets of Roman origin; the Christian one, the Jewish one, the Muslim one and the Armenian one.<\/p>\n The City has 8 historical access gates<\/strong> and host some of the most fascinating monuments<\/strong> of the Jerusalem; the Temple Mount<\/strong>, the Western Wall<\/strong>, the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher<\/strong>, the Dome of the Rock<\/strong> and the Al-Aqsa Mosque<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The Golden Dome of the Rock is certainly the most famous landmark of Jerusalem<\/strong>.<\/p>\nTOWNS AND CITIES, 3 UNESCO SITES IN ISRAEL<\/h2>\n
