Overview

World-famous Villa Astor in Sorrento, surrounded by one of the 20 most beautiful gardens in Europe, full of history and art, overlooking undoubtedly the most spectacular bay in Italy: from the city of Naples, all the way through Mount Vesuvius, Sorrento and Amalfi coasts.

Villa Astor has a charm dictated from time and its origins, perfectly blended with art, history and culture that have followed over the centuries enriching more and more this property now artistic and cultural heritage, not only of a wonderful region as Campania, but even an entire country like Italy.

This unique estate is located in Sorrento, the land of the Sirens, where, on the 1st century A.D. Agrippa Postumus, grandson of Emperor Augustus decided to build a fine villa on the very same place as the Villa Astor.

Later, at the end of the sixteenth century, after a destructive invasion by the Saracens, the house was rebuilt by Dominicans, who began cultivating the garden, bringing the first citrus fruit trees from the Middle East. In 1888 Count Labonia, who discovered the city of Troy, bought the land and began to build the present house which he named "Aux Roches Grises".

At the beginning of the twentieth century, William Waldorf Astor bought the house and designed the garden behind the villa and its secret paths and alleys through the lush vegetation revealing statues, urns and fountains making this beautiful garden one of the 20 most beautiful in Europe, 12.000 square feet includes the remains of a Roman villa and a collection of 145 archeological pieces, recently restored, all kept into the library of the villa, for guests to admire.

The view is simply terrific and can be enjoyed from the large windows, or while dining on the spacious terrace facing Mount Vesuvius and overlooking the blue sea.

On the lower floor, there are 2 huge living areas, 2 dining rooms, a kitchen and utility room.
The lowest level, which can be reached through a staircase is composed of a terrace, a salon in a glass-covered portico, an ideal summertime area for dinners, parties and barbecues.
