What to do during winter holidays in Verbier, Switzerland

If you want to spend some winter holidays in a romantic chalet surrounded by the Swiss alps, Verbier is the right place for you.

Verbier is located in Western Switzerland and is one of the most popular winter destinations in the Alps both for winter sports lovers and VIPs, as is Zermatt.

This village has a typical Swiss atmosphere and offers beautiful panoramas, excellent ski slopes and an exuberant nightlife. Along the main street of the center there are shops, restaurants, bars and clubs that stay open until late.

Let’s discover the best things to do in Verbier in winter.

BEST THINGS TO DO DURING THE WINTER HOLIDAYS IN VERBIER

EXPLORE MONT FORT AND MONT GELE

With its 3,328 meters, Mont Fort is the highest peak in Verbier.

Reaching its summit is not easy, since from Verbier you have to take 4 cable cars, but the rides are one more impressive than the other. In particular, the final 400-meter cable-car ride is really  impressive since it passes over the Glacier de Tortin.

However, once you get off, the adventure doesn’t end. You have to climb a stone staircase to reach the vantage point from which you can see the Glacier, the Mont Blanc and the Dents du Midi to the west, the Matterhorn to the east and the Rhone Valley to the north.

If you are an expert skier, on Mont Fort you can find one of the Alps’ most challenging black runs.

Another noteworthy mountain near Verbier is Mont Gelé, 3,022 meters high. You can reach its summit by cable car from Les Attelas and it is really worth it as it is the only peak that offers a 360 ° view over the entire area of the Four Valleys.

SKI AND RELAX IN VERBIER

Verber is located within the Les 4 Vallées (Four Valleys) ski area, together with La Tzoumaz, Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon.

This ski area is the largest in Switzerland and is located between 821 and 3,330 meters above sea level. It includes more than 400 km of ski and snowboard slopes and over 60 ski lifts.

The slopes can please both novice and expert skiers, free-riders can have a lot of fun thanks to the numerous off-piste possibilities, and even lovers of snow-shoeing or sledding can choose different routes.

Then, there is no shortage of ski schools for those wishing to improve their skills.

Furthermore, Verbier is one of the stops on the Haute Route, a seven-day route dedicated to skiers that connects Chamonix to Zermatt.

And after a day on the slopes or when the weather is bad, there is nothing better then relaxing at a spa. Vermier has numerous spas to choose from. Most of them are small but don’t lack services, such as saunas, heated pools, Jacuzzi and experienced masseurs.
