Naoussa: The Chic Village on Paros Island

Naoussa: The Chic Village on Paros Island

When thinking about the Cyclades archipelago, what come in our minds are images of whitewashed houses, crystal-clear waters, and fiery sunsets. Mykonos dazzles with its vibrant nightlife and lively beaches, while Santorini enchants with its volcanic landscapes and iconic blue-domed churches. And then, there is Paros, one of the larger Cycladic islands, offering a perfect balance of energy and serenity. Just 10km away from the bustling town of Parikia lies Naoussa, a former fishing village that has gracefully evolved into one of the most stylish and charming destinations in the Aegean.

What to Do in Naoussa

Located on the northern coast of Paros, this town is a true gem. Once a quiet fishing hamlet, it has blossomed into a sophisticated town without losing its traditional soul.

Here is a list of what we consider the best things to do in Naoussa.

Stroll Around the Fishing Port of Naoussa

The fishing port of Naoussa looks like a postcard. Traditional wooden boats bob gently in the turquoise waters, while waterfront tavernas and bars line the edge.  Naoussa’s ambiance is both laid-back and elegant. As evening falls, the village glows softly, welcoming visitors for sunset drinks or open-air dinners under the stars.

Explore the Venetian Castle

Right at the port’s edge stands the Venetian Castle (Kastelli), a semi-submerged fortress built in the 15th century by the Venetians. Though in ruins, its stone arches and towers are striking and provide a dramatic contrast to the bright white buildings of the village. Climb up for a unique view of the sea and the harbor.

Wander the Old Town

Naoussa’s old town is a labyrinth of narrow alleys. Here you can come across boutiques, artisan shops and lovely bougainvillea-covered houses. It’s perfect for getting lost in. You’ll find handmade jewelry, local art, designer clothing, and cozy cafes hidden throughout the maze-like streets.

Visit Agios Nikolaos Church

This charming Greek Orthodox church, perched right by the water, is small but iconic. Its blue dome and simple white walls make it a favorite photo spot and a peaceful place to take a quiet moment during your walk.

Go to the Beach

Just steps from the center of Naoussa, Piperi Beach offers a convenient and scenic place to swim and sunbathe. The golden sand and clear waters make it ideal for a quick beach break without leaving town.

Only a few minutes away by boat or car, Kolymbithres is one of Paros’ most famous beaches, known for its smooth granite rock formations and small coves with crystal-clear water. It’s ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and exploring by kayak or paddleboard.

Nearby, Agioi Anargyroi is a sandy, well-equipped beach perfect for families.

For a more secluded escape, Monastiri Beach and Kolymbithres are just a short boat ride or drive away. Kolymbithres is famed for its surreal rock formations, sculpted by wind and sea into natural pools and private coves—ideal for swimming and sunbathing in total tranquility.

Paros Park also offers hidden bays, scenic walking trails, and the beautiful Monastery of Ai Yiannis Detis, which regularly hosts art exhibitions and cultural events in a truly unique setting.

Enjoy Naoussa’s Nightlife and  and Gastronomy

By night, Naoussa transforms into one of the island’s most vibrant spots. Stylish cocktail bars, open-air lounges, and seaside clubs attract visitors from all over.

The village’s restaurants highlight the best of local cuisine—from traditional gouna (sun-dried and grilled mackerel) to tender grilled octopus and creative modern dishes, often paired with a glass of souma, the island’s version of raki.

Take a Boat Trip

From Naoussa, you can hop on a boat tour to nearby islands like Antiparos, Delos, or Mykonos, or simply cruise around Paros to discover hidden beaches and secret caves. It’s one of the best ways to see the island’s beauty from the water.
