Things to See and Do in Sant Antoni de Portimany

Originally a small fishing village, Sant Antoni de Portimany is now one of Ibiza’s most popular destinations, but it has managed to retain its authenticity.

The town is located in one of the most beautiful bays in the Mediterranean. The landscape changes throughout the day. During the day, the sun illuminates the white facades of the houses against the deep blue backdrop of the sea. In the evening, the lights of the bars and restaurants reflecting on the water create a charming atmosphere.

Many are the things you can see and do while in town.

Cultural Attractions in Sant Antoni de Portimany

For those wishing to immerse themselves in local history and culture, the center of Sant Antoni offers many interesting sights.

The church of Sant Antoni is a magnificent example of Ibizan rural architecture. Built as a fortress in the 14th-century to protect the inhabitants from pirate attacks, this whitewashed church conveys a sense of peace and tranquility.

A short distance away is Molí d’en Simó, a restored old windmill that reminds the importance of agriculture in the island’s economy before the arrival of tourism.

Another point of interest is the underground chapel of Santa Agnès, a small cave that has been used as a place of worship since ancient times, offering a mystical and evocative corner.

For a moment of relax, you should go to the Passeig de ses Fonts, the promenade that runs alongside the harbor. Here, you can sit in one of the many cafés, watch the people and the comings and goings of boats, and enjoy the legendary sunset.

What About Shopping?

Strolling through the streets of Sant Antoni’s center is also an opportunity for some shopping. Alongside souvenir shops, you will find fashion boutiques featuring the Adlib style, characterized by light, white garments made from natural fabrics, perfect for summer days.

There is no shortage of local craft shops where you can buy ceramics, jewelry, and typical products. The craft market on the Passeig de ses Fonts, open on summer evenings, is the ideal place to find unique and original pieces.

The main beach is S’Arenal, located right in front of the town center. This position made it a convenient choice. The beach is long stretch of fine sand and is well-equipped.

For those seeking a more secluded atmosphere and spectacular scenery, just a few kilometers away are Cala Salada and its neighbor Cala Saladeta. These beaches are characterized by reddish rocks and a dense pine forest, with waters so clear they resemble a natural swimming pool.

A little further south, Cala Bassa captivates with its golden sand and turquoise waters, surrounded by ancient Sabina trees.

Finally, the splendid Cala Comte, with its view of the islet of s’Illa des Bosc, is one of the best spots on the island to watch the sunset, a true spectacle of nature.
